Today I am hosting my part of the blog tour for Claire Seeber latest book The Stepmother.

I am very pleased as this book showed the dynamics of a cobbled together family and how it affects the lives of those around you.

The Stepmother

The perfect wife. A fairytale family. Don’t believe your eyes…

Jeanie and Matthew are a happily married couple who both have teenage children from previous relationships.
No one said it would be easy to raise a blended family under one roof but Jeanie and Matthew are strong. They will make it work.
And whilst Jeanie’s step-daughter Scarlett rejects her, Jeanie will just have to try harder to win her over.
But Jeanie has a past. A terrible secret she thought she’d buried a long time ago. And now, it’s coming to the surface, threatening to destroy her new marriage.
Someone is playing a terrifying game on Jeanie and she must put a stop to it once and for all.
After all, a fairytale needs a happy ending … doesn’t it?
A compelling, dark and twisty psychological thriller that will grip fans of Behind Closed Doors, Between You and Me and The Teacher.

My review

not your standard hard hitting action packed thriller.   this deals more with emotions and those emotions of children who are pushed into the lives of their parents.
while not overly scary it did have some interesting sub plots that really make you think about life.
the main character Jeanie is very damaged and you don’t see how much until you start to piece together some of what is happening.   she is a well fleshed out character who you are not sure whether to love her for her endless hope or feel sorry for hee because of her life and all of the garbage that happened.
the bad point I figured out who was the issue before it was revealed and I wish it had been more vague so that I could have been shocked more

  1. Good review! It’s tough trying to balance out enough info against being vague. Sad you were able to piece it together early on, but still looks interesting!
